from the Edmonton Journal via the Chronicle Herald,
Filmmaker Simon Dekker has a simple definition of a sports fan — someone who believes.
For the past few weeks, Dekker has been travelling to cities throughout North America filming hockey fans to find out why ordinary people get so emotionally involved in professional sports.
Using the NHL playoffs as his backdrop, he is exposing fankind’s deepest secrets….
Dekker said he’s not trying to capture wire climbers, police confrontations or women flashing their breasts. Rather, he said he wants to find out why fans have an “unending pursuit for recognition, belonging and glory.”
Dekker hasn’t seen any celebrations in California. Parking lots in San Jose and Anaheim are empty within 15 minutes of the end of the game, he said, and there are no traffic jams.
