Some of the folks who commented on my recap last night talked about it, but I didn’t see it at all, probably because I was forced to watch the Versus feed....

Maybe someone will upload something on Youtube from the FSN Pittsburgh feed…

The only thing I know is that it was the last faceoff of the game....

Some of the online chatter is Carcillo slashed Talbot as Tony says during the last faceoff.

It was a Carcillo elbow to the head of Talbot at the faceoff circle, from what I’m reading....

Philly should know better than get a little rough with Gary’s little boy’s team. Play nice or or pay the price. (If your gonna get called to the prinipals office you should aim high at who your gonna rough up.....why not start with #87)

oooooooh, buuuuuuurn!  Look out!  An absolutely SCATHING reply from dbcooper!  I love how whenever someone gets in trouble for breaking the rules or doing something suspension worthy against the penguins, it’s never actually because they break the rules or because it’s suspension worthy.  It’s because it’s against the penguins. Just so everyone knows, at this point in the game, in Crosby’s 4th full season, when you bring up the whining or that there’s a conspiracy for the Pens, you just look like an uneducated whiny moron and no one takes anything you have to say seriously.  That’s truth.

I really didn’t think it was too big of a deal. We’ve seen it happen tons of times, especially to Crosby in his first couple years. It was just a butt end to the face in the faceoff. But I suppose when it happens with 2 seconds left in the game when your down by 3 goals, that makes a difference.

But I also won’t complain if they take one of the gooniest of Philly’s goon squad off the ice for a game. He and Hartnell were running around throwing elbows the entire 2nd and 3rd periods. Anyone who watched the game knows what I’m talking about. Each of them definitely had an “intent to injure” on ever check and at the end of each play.

The NHL spoke with all coaches and general managers prior to the start of the playoffs informing them there would be no “message sending” during the latter stages of games. Carcillo got involved with the Penguins’ Max Talbot near the end of the game.

To me, the knee-to-knee hit on Letang was just as much of an intent-to-injure than on Talbot. He’ll get off, and probably should, but hopefully both coaches will tell their players that it’s ridiculous to have the last 15 seconds of the game result in so many scrums and useless back-and-forth. Refs should just have the power to end the game in those situations.

Go Pens!

Hartnell’s own coach and captain threw him under the bus (rightfully) for his game last night.  Steven’s words were essentially, Hartnell needs to know where the line between tough and stupid is, and last night he didn’t.
The Flyers didn’t lose that game because of a conspiracy with Gary and the refs, they lost because they were very clearly outplayed, then contributed more to their loss through undisciplined play.
When a team works to create a reputation, and that reputation borders on tough and cheap, it can work against you.  Maybe the toughness thing works against teams that can’t respond, but the Pen’s can. Carcillo’s actions at the end fit too well into Philly’s reputation, and they create the expectation that they are going to do it.  Cooke’s “elbow” to Carcillo earlier in the game is an example...it looked to be (at least debatably) a clean check, but because it was Matt Cooke, it was a penalty. Live by the sword, die by the sword.

dbcooper,

I hope your mother is hit by a car today.  if it happens, I want you to email me so I can inform you why the dirty slut deserved it for giving birth to a piece of shit like you.

get the flyers out of the playoffs.  their not a team that deserves to be here.  buffalo or fla would have been a better series.

what time was Chris Kunitz hearing on the knee to knee that gaved Kimmo Timonen an Charile Horse?

oops that would ever happen because pittsburgh is speical in bettman’s eye’s last night

“It’s great to have the playoffs starting. Based on the first period, I think we’re off to a fun start,” he said. “If this is any indication of what we’re going to get for the rest of the playoffs, they’re going to be absolutely spectacular.”

that was nothing to what Kunitz did to Timonen. i understand why national media mocks this sport

This series becoming so scripted starting with the Crosby Goal

VanMassonhoven said, ‘no legit kicking motion’, which their was. He didn’t say, ‘the player was able to touch the puck with his stick prior to it going in the net’.

They could have also said it was ‘inconclusive’.

They chose to lie because they were setting up the script for how they wanted the game to be called and the outcome to be influenced.

For what it’s worth, Timonen’s own comments…

“I saw him coming.  Who wants to get hit? So I turned away and got his knee straight to my leg.”

How exactly does a still picture show a kicking motion?

You’re allowed to angle your skate and continue in the motion your in. A kicking motion would be swinging your leg bellow you.

The Kunitz hit was an accident, and as Timonen even pointed out, it was his fault. If you can’t see the difference between that and purposely wacking a guy in the face with your stick with 2 seconds left in the game, then you should just stop watching hockey.

And isn’t there a way to delete Your Father’s post? What a disgrace to the human race.

here is a nice list of make pentalies refs have been calling all year long in bettman’s NHL

Break an opponents stick by stick checking it - slashing
Accidentally shooting the puck out of play - delay of game
goalie playing the puck out of designated zone - delay of game
playing defense and having your stick horizontal and touching the player - hooking
sticking up for a teamate by holding a cheapsotter accountable for his actions - instigator/misconduct

having an opposing player step on your stick - tripping
standing close to someone who falls down - tripping
tapping someone’s glove - hooking
hitting someone too hard - roughing
hitting someone who purposely turns to face the boards before you hit them - boarding
taking a hand off your stick - holding
being pushed into the opposing goalie - goalie interference
questioning a ref on any of this - game misconduct

talking to your teammate about the terrible call the ref just made - unsportsmanlike conduct

if Daniel Carcillo is suspended there has been alot talk around flyers skate zone today that flyers might called up two or one of the phantoms fighters clarkson and gratton. They would also dress cote and along side this phantom player(s). Sisba will be also inserted into the lineup for game 2. it’s water cooler talk from a good friend.

if carcillo is suspended then bill ‘i can’t fight’ gurien is getting suspended as well.

i will point to this rule that all anti fighters love to preach

A player who is deemed to be the instigator of an altercation in the final five (5) minutes of regulation time or at any time in overtime, shall be assessed an instigator minor penalty, a major for fighting, a ten minute misconduct and an automatic one-game suspension. The length of suspension will double for each subsequent offense. In addition, the player’s coach shall be fined $10,000—a fine that will double for each subsequent incident.

(NOTE 1) No team appeals will be permitted either verbally or in writing regarding the assessment of this automatic suspension.

Flyersfan, are you even speaking English?  I can’t make out what you’re trying to say.  And Alan, you can criticize the Pens and how they play all you want, but like I said earlier “when you bring up the whining or that there’s a conspiracy for the Pens, you just look like an uneducated whiny moron and no one takes anything you have to say seriously.” So far though, no one can say anything bad about the way the Pens are playing.  They made the Flyers look like an ECHL team last night.  Maybe you two can go make out with each other on the golf course since that’s where you’ll both be next week.

The NHL has suspended Philadelphia Flyers forward Daniel Carcillo one game and fined coach John Stevens $10,000 for his actions at the end of Wednesday night’s Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series against Pittsburgh, a game won by the Penguins, 4-1.

Carcillo got involved with the Penguins’ Max Talbot during a faceoff with seven seconds left in the game. Carcillo appeared to use the butt-end of his stick to strike Talbot in the head at the end of the regulation time. Talbot did not sustain an injury and no penalty was assessed.

“We had a conference call Monday with the General Managers and Coaches of playoff teams and told them explicitly we would not tolerate attempts by clubs to ‘send a message’ late in a game when the outcome had been determined,” said Colin Campbell, NHL Senior Executive Vice Presidents of Hockey Operations. “Organizations – players and coaches – will be held accountable for such actions.”

No, I love slow, dump and chase, no skill hockey.
And I think that Pittsburgh is the center of the hockey universe....why else would all of the conspiracies favor the Pen’s, and not the Bruins, Rangers, Canadiens, Black Hawks and Maple Leafs?
And I’m sure the entire league is terrified of that 4th line...The powerplay units of their opponents will be sleeping on the bench they’ll be so tired.
