Carcillo is a hack and the league should suspend him for this as well. What a clown.

It’s amazing how the media is so quick to overlook the fact that Gaborik was the first to drop his gloves.

And what should the league suspend him for exactly? Last time I checked, getting in a fight with a willing participant is allowed.

Torts press conference after this game was a classic. “I bet you were beat up at the bus stop.”

Gaborik shouldn’t have dropped his gloves and did any Rangers respond after? Or did they do a Dale Rolfe (Dave Schultz pounded Dale Rolfe as Rangers all watched horrified, circa 1974)

Certainly nothing requiring supplemental discipline (Gaborik dropped his gloves first!), but not a very classy move from not a very classy guy. But then, I don’t think anyone was operating under the belief that Carcillo abides the supposed “Code” of hockey.

eh, who cares. he punched him in the visor a couple times and maybe caught him once or twice. big whoop. Carcillo is a moron but Gabs will live.

If Gaborik didn’t want to get pummeled I guess he shoulda left his gloves on. Carcillo is who he is, and if the opposing player drops the gloves then game on. I don’t think he shoulda picked a fight with Gaborik however.

Who were the announcers in that fight clip?  They should be embarrassed with how they saw that fight.

The Rangers entire organization embarrassed themselves last night.  Nice work.

Carcillo is a punk.  But Girardi (spelling) is a chicken.  Seriously, he is just standing there watching Gaby get destroyed.

I’m not a Carcillo fan, but come on, Gaborik tossed his glove down and all but asked for it. I can’t stand the whole “fighters should only engage with other fighters under the protocols of the hockey code” mentality. It’s absurd.

I dont understand this “code” you guys are talking about. Should carcillo not dropped his gloves after gaborick did and just take the punches?

Its Gaborick’s own fault. Shouldnt of dropped the gloves first.

Where in the video did Gaborik drop his gloves first? Fight seemed inevitable and mutual once the two paired off along the boards, but it wasn’t like Gaborik dropped his gloves then challenged Carcillo. Under normal circumstances when an enforcer sees a punching bag they just grab them and throw them to the ground because you don’t look tough beating up someone’s kid sister.

However, I have no problem Carcillo pounding Gaborik if he is willing and no probelm with “stars” standing up for themselves every once in a while, but to say Carcillo did it in self defense is funny. I think this is a case where the instigator rule allowed a fight to happen since Carcillo figured he could beat up on Gaboirk with little or no retaliation and the Rangers pretty much proved him right.  Didn’t the Rangers sign Brashear just to protect their stars? Why was Avery the one that had to chase Carcillo down later in the game?

I’m a lifelong Rangers fan and for anyone to suggest that Carcillo should be suspended for this is ridiculous. It’s also ridiculous for the Rangers Haters on here to suggest that Gaborik started the fight by dropping his gloves. If you watch the video clip again, Hockey1919 is right ... Gaborik didn’t drop his gloves first unsolicited. When the scrum started, Carcillo grabbed Gaborik in a headlock and gave him a face washing with his glove as they’re moving behind the net toward the wall. Of course Gaborik is going to try to wriggle his way out of that. Any player would. And yes, it’s ridiculous that Carcillo went after Gaborik but it’s 100 times more ridiculous that the other Rangers on the ice simply stood around and watched. Not one, not two, but all four of the other Rangers’ players on the ice should have been in there getting Carcillo off of Gaborik. That’s what would have happened in Pittsburgh, Washington, San Jose, Chicago - anywhere else. And Drury’s comments afterward were a joke. He should lose the C if he honestly thinks the proper message was sent to Carcillo later in the game. Sure, the fight was bush league by Carcillo, but the lack of response by the Rangers was far worse. That’s embarassing. The true test will be what happens the next time these teams play.

Hockey1919—Brashear was not dressed for this game.  Not that it would have made a difference, as he has not stood up for his teammates all year.
