Changes Are Coming

Some of you may know NHL teams will be undergoing a website transistion for next year.
The Hurricanes have started and all of the teams will have this basic format by the start of next season.
What do you think?

I like the design a lot, but I think the concept of having all teams on the same design is lame. I know color schemes will change, but it seems like each team has their own tradition, style, history, etc., and would want a unique website to reflect that.

It looks okay. If I were the team, my biggest complaint would be that “Powered by lenovo” looks more prominent than the actual name of the team! I agree that it seems unnecessary to standardize team websites, but if this leads to having all of the team’s websites up-to-date with timely information, that could be a good thing.

Personally, I think the layout is better than the Red Wings’ website, but I don’t like the concept that every team will have the same website format, but with different colors and logos. Do other leagues do this with their teams?

That is a good point. I didn’t think of that. It would be well worth dealing with boring clones of the same website if the standardization would lead to better information from all the teams.

Unfortunately, at least from a Wings fan’s standpoint, I have little hope that anything will persuadet them to actually share information with their fans and provide access to the organization.

It looks a lot like the standard design of MLB sites.  Not that there is anything wrong with the formula, but I find that interesting.

I think the Caps site is much better design, and I don’t like the common-look-and-feel constraints that the league is trying to expose.  They should be marketing each team’s individuality instead.

Perhaps, before they standardize their websites, they should standardize their officiating, suspension policy, etc, etc.

But, you know, at least if you have a website, it can look bland.  Good call, NHL.

Anything is better than what the Hurricanes had previously.  It used to be terrible and nearly unusable.

MLB team sites have been standardized for a few years.

Given the wide disparity of NHL sites, having a standard format (differing colors) isn’t a bad idea. More important is to get the teams to pay more attention to the site and to improve coordination with NHL.com.
