from the CP via TSN,
Free-agent winger J.P. Dumont has narrowed his list of suitors down to three or four teams and it doesn’t include the Montreal Canadiens.
Some fans and media in Montreal have been pressing the Canadiens to make a move on Dumont, a 28-year-old Montreal native, but that hasn’t happened.
“We’ve never had an offer from Montreal,” his agent Yves Archambault said Wednesday. “I’ve spoken to several teams. At this point we’re really looking at 3-4 teams.”
The Detroit Red Wings are believed to be among the teams interested in Dumont, who became an unrestricted free agent earlier this month when the Buffalo Sabres exercised their walk-away rights after he was awarded a $2.9-million US, one-year deal in arbitration.

I would think the Wings would have an interest, especially with the Franzen situation. Maybe the will move in a different direction and this could be it...or they are using it as a bragaining chip to get Franzen to sign.

I think Franzen is going to be left out in the cold so to speak. Detroit is one of those teams that likes to have all I’s dotted and T’s crossed before or by training camp. Dumont could be the missing link, however; Dumont is not the big horse we were expecting, but with his skates, hands and view on the ice, Dumont would be my choice. I just thing the money is a little steep.

I like the thought of the Wings adding Dumont regardless of Franzens situation, simply because he (Dumont) brings it come playoff time. Don’t get me wrong I would like to see Franzen signed, but if I had to choose...give me JP Dumont

Is there any substance to this rumor or is it purely speculative, becasue the wings have a need.
