I’m having a hard time finding a fit for him. Given his age, Florida maybe? He’d fit in well with the snowbirds.

Montreal was my first thought, but what about Toronto? Considering the relationship he has with Brian Burke and the news reports last week about Brian Burke definitely having a fit in some form for Cheli during the Olympics.

Honestly, I think he’s going to join a team on the rebuild. The rebuilding teams (Atlanta, Tampa, NY Islanders for example) are teams that got really young really quick, and they’ll need some real leadership by example in the locker room. This isn’t to say those teams respective captains aren’t good at what they do, just that when you have someone who has been in the league for as long as him, with the experiences he has, it’s the sort of thing that would be invaluable to any team, but particularly a team full of young guys. I could see especially Tampa making a strong push to get him, so he could mentor Hedman

Well, why not Ottawa? Or even Columbus? He says he wants to stay in the East but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s leaving the Western Conference. He has a son starting MSU this fall and all indications are that he wants to stay close to Michigan.
Hell, I won’t be surprised if the Flyers pick him up.
