Ben Wright at Blueland Blog says he will stay in Chicago and will be called up if needed.

This is a sign that ATL is all-in, if you ask me.
With Kovalchuk gone now, all they want to do is whatever it takes to make the playoffs, and then win at least one game. If they do that, Waddell can come back and say “Look, we never accomplished that with Ilya, but we did now”...
Chelios is a risk, but has decent reward if it works out and they need him.

Sadly, this move is irrelevant on just about every conceivable level.
Just like the Thrashers.
