Chelios Had A Big Impact In Hasek’s Return

Lubos Brabec of eNHL.cz did an email inteview with Dominik Hasek in the last few days.
With the help of Roman Jedlicka, also of eNHL.cz, following is the translation of the interview.

Q: When did you decide to continue playingr?
A: Me and my wife definitely decided on Monday and gave notice to the Red Wings.

Q: What was the biggest motivation for your decision?
A: It was one more opportunity to play for the Stanley Cup. I know if I had decided not to play I wouldn’t have another chance.

Q: After the games with Anaheim you said it probably was your last game in NHL.  Did you really feel like this at that moment?
A: If I hadn’t felt like that I would have never said it.

Q: Did you talk with GM Holland about the team roster and some additions for next season?
A: We had meeting - I think one week after the last game - and for one hour we talked about how the team would look.

Q: Are you worried by the fact that if something breaks down next season, you wont have a chance again?
A: You can’t think about these negative things. It only would slow down your goals.

Q: Did you talk to your teammates before your decision?
A: On Sunday I had meeting with Chris Chelios, we discussed the whole situation. This coversation had big impact in my final decision.

Q: Did you have some talks with other NHL teams?
A: I am Detroit Red Wing until June 30 and I am not allowed to talk another team. Anyway that is a moot point, I have no interest in playing for another team.

Paul—With this post, I think I will officially declare you “SCOOP”.  (Note, I had thought about the Deep Digger “C-In-C”, but that tag carries with it a double entendre, and I wouldn’t want anyone else confused about the earnest praise).

Heres to you Scoop!!!!

He was probably thrilled that someone else on the team would carry the “Grampa” tag instead of him.

Always great to get the “behind the scenes” info, Paul, and we all expect it when we visit here everyday. I agree that your new nickname should be Scoop.

Anyway that is a mute point, I have no interest in playing for another team.

Actually, that would be a “moot” point.

Thanks Older… and the mute was my error, not the error of the translator, now corrected.
Lucky you got to it before my retired sister, the English school teacher....
