from Chris Kruc of the Chicago Tribune,
“The Blackhawks vehemently dispute any implication the team has in any way violated the collective bargaining agreement or had any intention whatsoever to circumvent the salary cap,” a Hawks team spokesman said Friday. “The contract is legitimate and approved by the NHL. We are confident the NHL will conclude that there is absolutely no evidence the Blackhawks intended to circumvent the salary cap.”...
The National Hockey League Players’ Association is not involved in the investigation but NHLPA Director Paul Kelly said in an e-mail Friday that it will fight to allow players to sign such contracts.
“The NHLPA will take whatever steps are necessary to insure that players continue to have the unfettered ability to negotiate contracts that are compliant with existing CBA rules,” Kelly wrote.
