Coaching Changes Ahead

The indications are Laviolette has already received interest from a couple of teams that might want to make a change. GMs can’t afford to waste time because with the compressed schedule, a team could easily be out of the playoff race by mid-November.

That means struggling teams are going to be quick to pull the trigger.

The Maple Leafs (Ron Wilson), Islanders (Scott Gordon) and Wild (Todd Richards) are all off to slow starts. Richards was just hired and Wilson has been given a vote of confidence. There’s a lot of talk that Gordon might be on the hotseat.

Another team to keep an eye on is the Thrashers.

They’re playing well right now, but if they stumble, coach John Anderson will feel the heat from GM Don Waddell, who might need to get the team back into the playoffs to keep his job
