from the Detroit Free Press,
Colleen Howe, the wife of Red Wings legend Gordie Howe, has passed away.
The Red Wings confirmed that Howe, who was known as Mrs. Hockey, died today in Bloomfield Hills. She was 76.
Colleen Howe had been battling Pick’s disease, a progressive dementia that alters a person’s personality, since 2002.
“We extend our deepest condolences to Gordie, Mark, Marty, Cathy, Murray and the entire Howe family,” said Red Wings owners Mike and Marian Ilitch. “Colleen was a pioneer hockey wife and hockey mom and devoted her entire life to the betterment of the game. She will be sincerely missed by us and all who knew her.”

I knew that Mrs. Hockey had been ill for the past several years. I confess to having never knew that she was such a pioneering woman, and so influential to Gordie’s career.
My thoughts and prayers will be with Gordie and his family. The passing of his wife of over 50 years; well I wouldn’t understand how traumatic that must be. God bless them all.

Oh that’s so sad. My heart goes out to the entire Howe family. I’m so sorry for their loss. It must be especially difficult for Gordie. My thoughts are with them.
