Columbus Looking For A Dman

from Aaron Portzline of Puck-rakers at the Columbus Dispatch,
When asked if the Blue Jackets were closing in on signing any veterans to training camp tryout deals, Howson acknowledged that the Jackets had tried to bring two or three such players to camp. So far, no takers.
The reason? Players want to go to camp with clubs who have obvious needs, needs that they can fill. Columbus used to be a desired location in that respect, but the 2009-10 Blue Jackets’ roster is pretty much set.
“We’re not a real attractive team anymore to come in on a tryout,” Howson said. “Unless you’re a defenseman, I guess, or a natural (fourth-line) center. We got the message from the agents: “Why would we want to come there?”
“There is a void, particularly at defense. We’d be open to bringing in a veteran NHL defenseman who has played but doesn’t have a contract. But so far that hasn’t happened.”
