from Lyle Richardson at the Hockey News,
Kings fans have grown restless about their club’s inactivity thus far in the off-season, but there’s plenty of time for GM Dean Lombardi to make some moves.
That being said, Lombardi has suggested he’s not about to pursue any expensive signings this summer, preferring instead to build with young, affordable talent.
Internet-based rumors have suggested Lombardi is interested in Chicago Blackhawks netminder Nikolai Khabibulin, whose $6.75 million contract would certainly push the Kings closer to the minimum, but those sources also predicted former Ottawa Senators goalie Ray Emery would be in a Kings uniform.

Kings management have previously hinted they’d look to within but that was before Nolan was fired.

If LA needs salary here’s some salary...Glen Murray and Manny Fernandez for Tom Preissing. Both Murray and Fernandez have one year left on their contracts so it won’t kill LA money wise.

So the Kings take on two expensive, injury-prone veterans and the Bruins get one of LA’s few decent defensemen? Sorry, but if Dean Lombardi dreams of making that deal he should wake up and apologize.

LA isn’t going anywhere this year. They need to get to $40M in salary. They pick up an NHL goalie which they don’t have at the moment and a veteran leader. With a decent goalie (and a coach) LA could be somewhat competitive. Plus Glen Murray gets to surf everyday...and the Bruins get a two way Dman as the last piece of their puzzle.

I think Los Angeles should be able to pretty much reach the floor with their RFAs, shouldn’t they? If they need to overpay players, it might as well be young guys in their system already that the fans know and identify with.
