Complaining About Holmstrom

from Gordon McIntyre of the Vancouver Province,
On Tuesday when Niklas Kronwall scored to make it 2-2 early in the second, Holmstrom not once, not twice, but three times pushed Alex Edler out of the way while at the same time bumping against Roberto Luongo.
Then on Pavel Datsyuk’s go-ahead goal that made it 4-3 on the power play, Holmstrom was partially tying up Willie Mitchell in front of Luongo. You could argue that had it been Mitchell doing the same thing he’d be called for interference.
In football it’s called offensive interference; in the NHL it’s called when and if the refs feel like it.

Didn’t filppula just break his wrist? Damn...Detroit’s got a “13” etched into their helmets.

At least Brule didn’t give him Bird Flu. Too many people are getting messed up early. Eventually we’re going to be watching AHLers trying to score on backup goaltenders.

What’s that I hear in the distance?

Holmstrom also gets chopped, slashed, and cross-checked more than any other player in hockey with no calls.
Let’s also not forget that Holmstrom’s been on the ice for probably 20 or 30 called-off goals because of his reputation, whether those calls were fair or not.

Oh yawn!
Thomas Holmstrom is playing what Don Cherry refers to as good “Canadian” hockey. If Thomas’s last name were Gilmour,Roberts,or Shanahan and he were from Kingston instead of the North pole in Sweden, Holmstrom would be a icon beloved by Xenophobes throughout Ontario and BC.
Hate him all you want, but Holmstrom has adopted the gritty style of play that talking heads always say Europeans don’t have, and turned it into an artform.
29 other teams woulud love to have a player just like him..
Standing in front of the net game after game while dodging 100 MPH shots , defensemen crosscheck him, and slahes from armour plated goalies takes pretty BIG BALLS. So how come there aren’t 100 other guys in the league willing to do the same thing? I can think of only one other , Ryan Smith, who is even close to Holmstrom.
