Comrie To Ottawa

via the New York Islanders,

The Islanders have acquired forward Dean McAmmond and a first-round draft selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft from the Ottawa Senators, in exchange for forward Mike Comrie and defenseman Chris Campoli.

added 4:51pm, The first the Islanders received was acquired by Ottawa from San Jose, so it will be a very low pick in the first round.

I think it’s really great that Bryan Murray would go out of his way to try and make Carrie Underwood feel more comfortable in Ottawa. Now she can hang with Hilary Duff while their “two Mikes” try to resurrect the Senators season. Uh, on second thought, maybe they could all just go shopping.

It’s official....Ottawa is now more inept than the Islanders. A first round pick? That could be a top 5 pick...for Comrie? He sucks

Kevin, that is San Jose’s first the Isles are getting so it will be a bottom 5 pick not top 5 pick.

Wow.

After all those years of the Sens shafting the Isles in trades, is Lon-GUY-land about to start returning the favor?

Comrie?  Really?  That’s the missing piece for the playoff push?

Stick a fork in the Sens, they’re D-O-N-E.

I dont think this is about this year’s playoffs. This trade is for the future. Murray said on Team 1200 he was eyeing Campoli for awhile. He figured San Jose’s first round pick at BEST would be a3rd or 4th D-man of a Goalie both of which who would be ready in 3-4 years at the soonest.

Campoli gives them a 3-4th D-man right now (and for the future) who was playing on a pretty weak Isles team. He still has room for improvement.  The Pick that was given is not guaranteed to pan out.

As for Comrie, I think that the Isles requested him gone so that they could save $$$ and so they dumped salary.

I dont think Murray has any illusions that the Sens will make the playoffs even though he may say that they have a chance in public (which is pure PR to sell tickets). This move is the precursor to other trades (Kuba maybe?)
