from the Ottawa Citizen,
If fans of the Ottawa Senators are worried about their favourite team, owner Eugene Melnyk isn’t.
In fact, he’s boldly predicting that the team’s season is not going to end until mid-June, with another shot at the Stanley Cup.
“Don’t get the BBQ out till mid June,” he said in an e-mail Wednesday. “It is going to be a great run. Mark that.”

A copy of an e-mail that I sent this morning:
Wayne and Allen,
Re: today’s respective pieces. I can’t believe that, based on the team’s direction since Dec 1 and on the strenght of your recent critical articles, you could do such an about face and spin wonderful stories of hope for this fast-unravelling season.
Unless of course a certain Sens official had something to do with those positive spins. Which would be a darn shame. I have on record an e-mail from Jim Orban from January 2008 re-assuring my wife and I that the Citizen does not pay lip service to the Senators as a major sponsor, after I complained to him that we didn’t want to hear another mention of the Sens and the Cup in the same sentence.
I thus find it highly aggravating to read your insinuation Wayne that Ottawa is still a favourite to be in the finals. Hell, they’ll be lucky to finish in the top 6, never mind just making the post-season at this rate.
And Allen, to read your extremely honest and accurate account of the Habs game and then a day later read that the owner took offense and chimed in with another totally imbecile prediction doesn’t mean you have to print it. Unless of course someone urged you to clean up the mess.
I would much prefer reading about the fact that Bryan Murray still doesn’t have all his ducks properly lined up when he said:
Willing to trade guys from the active roster but preferring to deal a prospect, Murray is reluctant to spoil the 2008 NHL draft for Senators fans.
“I’m having a hard time giving up a first-round pick this year with the draft being held in Ottawa,” he said. “I don’t want to do that.”
