from John Gaudiosi of IGN,
Corey Perry already has a Stanley Cup ring at the age of 23. Now the Anaheim Ducks forward is gunning for a second. The 2003 first round pick had 72 points this season, including 32 goals and 40 assists. The eighth-seeded Ducks already toppled the first place San Jose Sharks and now have their sights set on the Detroit Red Wings.
In addition to focusing on his team’s latest run for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Perry lent EA Sports a hand with its motion-capture for its upcoming NHL 10 hockey game. He donned the skates, helmet and a special suit with reflective balls to have his on-ice maneuvers captured for inclusion in this fall’s latest hockey game. Perry talks about his love of videogames in this exclusive interview.
IGN: What’s it like to know that your actual moves and trick shots are now going to be part of NHL 10?
Corey Perry: It’s pretty exciting. It’s something that you really don’t think about as a kid – all of the stuff that it takes to make a videogame like this. When you’re part of it, it’s special.

Well let’s see… NHL 10 is only going to be available for 360 and PS3.
No PS2. No Xbox. No PC even, as they announced its discontinuation this year.
I’m sure that maybe dozens will be interested!

Primis, I feel sorry for you if you’ve been playing the PS2 version. They stopped developing the PS2/Xbox/PC version full-time since NHL 06.
NHL 07,08,09 for PS2/PC were not much more than roster updates.
NHL 07,08,09 for 360/PS3 were significant upgrades to the series, and each year the game has gotten better and better under the lead of ex-Lightning goalie David Littman. Before he was in charge they’d go back and forth between arcade and sim and add silly “back of the box” features each year. Now they just strive for authenticity and simulation yet the game is also very fun. The last two won sports game of the years from most major game review outlets.

He donned the skates, helmet and a special suit with reflective balls to have his on-ice maneuvers captured…
I guess that had to do that because Perry has no balls of his own.

I will not buy this game if they put Corey Perry on the cover, and I’ve been buying the EA Sports NHL franchise since the originals for SNES and Sega Genesis...but I’ll go the 2K sports way if they put that guy on the cover, I swear to God.

I’ve actually been a staunch PC supporter for the series. I love the PC because when the developers do a sub-par job on uniforms or arenas I can just download and import ones that people create online. Or I can download entire teams, rosters, and leagues. Or I can do things like use CaptainMazda’s ditty pack so that the ditties that play between action are actual songs you’d hear at hockey games. The NHL09 PC version is actually a whole lot of fun. I’ve loved the Be a Pro mode. I made myself as a C for Atlanta and I’ve had a ball developing so I could center Kovalchuk and Little.
I’m not so bummed by the loss of PS2. I am crushed by the loss of a PC version.
I own an original XBox, PS2, PC, and even a Wii. I will not ever buy a PS3 because it’s a brick IMHO, and it’s unlikely now I’ll ever get a 360. And I heard the other day that it’s unlikely any new consoles will come out in the next 4 years due tot he economy and technology development cycle.
I just think it’s crappy and stupid that EA was so short-sighted as to blow off their PC platform fans (there’s a HUGE modding community built around it and always has been) and only develop for PS3 (which nobody owns or wants) and 360.
Yes I can get the 2K series for Wii but, my god the graphics for 2K9 were terrible and the Wii doesn’t do graphics very well at all… I don’t need cutting-edge graphics but I do expect more than something that looks like it was from 8 years ago.
