Could Phoenix Actually Make The Playoffs?

from Kevin Allen of Mucking and Grinding,
In the spirit of full disclosure, I’m openly rooting for the Phoenix Coyotes to succeed this season because I believe it would be a remarkably fun story if they make the playoffs.
With the team in bankruptcy and players only finding out recently that the team is staying in Phoenix, the Coyotes aren’t exactly the hottest ticket in the desert. There are certainly people like Claire who could say “I didn’t even know Phoenix still had a NHL team.”
But they do have a team, and general manager Don Maloney, working with a budget near the NHL poverty line, has put together a team that does indeed have a shot at the playoffs.
“Would we like to be where Philadelphia and Boston are, to be able to spend a little more? Yes, everyone would like that,” Maloney said. “But we still feel in our circumstance we have enough resources to be a playoff team.”
