Coyotes Assign Turris To AHL

GLENDALE, ARIZONA—Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have recalled defenseman David Schlemko from their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage.  In addition, center Kyle Turris has been assigned to the Rampage.

Turris, 19, has recorded 6-10-16 and 17 PIM in 50 games with the Coyotes this season.  The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Turris was selected by the Coyotes in the first round (3rd overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Whose fault is it for the signing last season? Turris’ for actually signing it? Or the Coyotes for believing he was ready?

Turris was being compared to Toews during the draft year, a complete player who will be the number one pivot for any team. The difference? Toews turned down Chicago’s offer in ‘06 to stay at North Dakota for another year, to develop. Toews didn’t think he was ready. So he waited a year.

Kyle never saw the ups and downs in Wisconsin. He saw nothing but down. He didn’t stick around to see what it’s like to overcome adversity. Instead, he took off where the grass was apparently greener.

Phoenix may have destroyed the potential. Turris rushed. The Coyotes rushed. Not only should he have stayed in Wisconsin for another year, he should’ve gone to the World Juniors again.

Completely agree with you Wade, on all counts. What a confidence boost it would’ve been for him to play at World Juniors again!
