NHL superstar Sidney Crosby makes his highly anticipated return to the Pittsburgh Penguins line-up as they take on the New York Islanders on a special edition of CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA on Monday, November 21 at 7 p.m. ET.

The veteran play-by-play team of Jim Hughson and analyst Craig Simpson will call the game from the broadcast booth with Glenn Healy providing analysis from between the benches. Ron MacLean will set the stage for the game as he hosts from the CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA studio.

The Penguins’ captain has been out of the line-up since January 5, 2011, due to a concussion – a span of 61 consecutive regular-season games. The former league MVP and perennial all-star will rejoin his team at the start of a three-game home stand.

Because this comment:

is very classy.

Congrats Red Winger, on once again derailing a post that has something to do with the Penguins.

And, sure, he’s not perfect.  But…you know what?  I’d rather have a fiery captain who gets pissed off when his team loses than a guy who says:

“We’ve just got to stay positive. We have to. There will be people that will be negative enough. Players in here, we have to stick together and be positive.”

Isn’t he supposed to be the next captain?  Haaaaa.  What a pansy.

I’ll definitely take the best player in the world over that guy.  Guess that’s just my prerogative, though, right?

Who’s idea was it for Sid to play against the Isles in his first game? He could either light them up on the scoreboard because they are that bad or get lit up by one of their “goons” haha
Yep, glad he’s back

Cainer and RedWingwr, it’s fine not to be a Pens fan, but there’s no reason to be childish and wish ill will on one of the games best players. Even if you don’t like Sid, you can’t deny that the NHL is better as a while when he is playing then when he’s not. Your attitudes are ridiculous and you should really be embarrassed.

Where did Red Winger wish ill will on Crosby?  Looks to me like he took a shot at the terrible goonery of the Isles.

I disagree.  One person, no matter how talented, does not make or break the NHL.  One player can only make the team they currently play for better, not the whole league.  This is the biggest complaint I have about Crosby fans, is that they blow his impact on the NHL and Hockey in general completely out of proportion.  Then NHL and Hockey existed before Crosby, it has functioned perfectly since he has been out injured, and it will thrive after he is gone.

Personally?  I couldn’t care less of Crosby ever plays again.  Not because I wish him ill, but because he doesn’t play for Detroit, Boston, or Tampa Bay, so frankly I don’t care.

And THANK YOU VERSUS for switching to the Pens/Islanders game.  I get to watch televised Boston hockey as it is meant to be seen, with Jack Edwards being his homertastic self.

I do find it interesting they would pick the Isles to come back against, after the shenanigans that occurred last year between the teams.  Seems risky with the bad blood someone may take a run at him.
