Deal Makes No Sense

from the Bleacher Report,

Trade rumors buzzing around the Big Apple—about a multiplayer deal that could make a short- and long-term impact for both teams involved:

Jaromir Jagr, Michal Roszival, and Petr Prucha to the Phoenix Coyotes for Shane Doan and Ed Jovanovski.

The deal makes sense for both clubs.

I am beginning to lose faith in some of the hockey bloggers. After Jagr leaves Phoenix as quickly as possible at the end of the season, what does Phoenix do then?

I’m soooooooo tired of this silly rumours. Every one of these nonsensical bits of tripe usually center around players with “no-trade” and “no-movement” clauses. And no, contrary to what some folks suggest, players don’t “waive them all the time”. In almost every case, those who do are in the final year of their contracts, eligible for UFA status, toiling on non-playoff clubs that can’t or won’t re-sign them and are being offered a chance to play for a playoff club.

Doan re-signed with the Coyotes last season and is committed to them, as they are with him. GM Don Maloney would probably love to be rid of Jovanovski’s contract but as we saw this summer he has no intention of waiving his NTC.

Research, people, RESEARCH!!!!!

Exactly Lyle and as you know, I try to avoid these type of trade rumors.  But today and the one from last night came from pretty reputable sites, but jeez, are the people writing these even thinking about the cap and what can and can’t be done.

Prucha will get dealt eventually, he seems to be in the doghouse lately in New York… but this trade seems so far fetched it aint funny.

Whoever gets Prucha will put him to good use on a first or second line because his talents are currently wasted in a third line role.

As for the recent rise of ridiculous rumours coming from reputable sites, I attribute that to the lack of trade activity thus far this season.

I agree, and hope it changes soon.
It seems almost impossible for any team to try and acquire a top line player, being that they already have a set cap space and if they did make a deal, they may have to move more players than originally planned to allow the absorption of a new contract.

are people more excited about soap operas, manufactured trade rumors and stat-o-nomics over the actual game?

its almost similar to the pandemic of Fantasy Sports taking over the actual appreciation of watching the talents on the ice/field. they’re nearly reduced to stats and abstractions for someone to win a few bucks in a “pool” who are disappointed when the puppet doesnt perform to standard (or the other end of the numbers spectrum where super math geeks think number trends tell the whole story.). people dont follow the sport to actually learn the game and use it in their own game as a model.

thats why its always hilarious to hear people talk about these people as role models when they do something lame like Barry Bonds, etc… how quickly they forget that when we were children we didnt pay attention to what these guys did through the “ESPN” hype machine. we just watched them on the court, ice and field and went out to the pond/playground and tried to emulate their game to become better coordinated, stronger, quicker thinkers and working as teams.

back to the point, people who put out these rumors and rumor websites (like Eklund the snake oil salesman and on a larger scale the NY Post) are looking for cash subscriptions through fabricated soap opera. its dungeons and dragons for sports geeks.

go out and play
even if its a C league
chuck schulz who created Peanuts played hockey until he was an old man. so do these old farts:

Any chance the Wings take a look at Prucha for some more secondary scoring?  What would it take to get him?  Is he the type of forward we might be looking for?

I really don’t know anything about him…

Prucha is a hardworking winger who isn’t afraid of going to the “dirty” areas of the ice.  He’s got a good shot when he actually uses it, but his defensive game is lacking.  Also, he’s about 170 lbs. soaking wet, so when he gets hit (which is often, either he keeps his head down too much or he’s just willing to get hit), you notice.  He bounces right back up though.  He managed to score 22 goals last year even though most of his PP time was taken by Shanahan.  However, this year he’s had trouble finding offense (like most of the Rangers team) and only has 2 goals.
