Dealing With The Blackhawks

from Spector of Spector’s Hockey,

It appears there are conflicting reports regarding potential talks between the Blackhawks and Maple Leafs. Both teams however seem keen to make a move, if not with each other then with other clubs so their respective situations will continue to attract attention

more and my question is- Why would any team be willing to help Chicago get out of their salary cap situation?  Unless the deal is too good to pass up and I don’t think what is being tossed around is good enough. then teams should wait.

Paul.  Have to figure Toronto would be interested in taking on a salary dump from Chicago here for a pick or two to help with their rebuild.  I think it’s more of a situation where Toronto is looking at how they can better themselves more so than helping out Chicago.

I agree with RR. Toronto has an obvious interest in strengthening the team and/or recoup a few picks to compensate for the Kessel deal. It would be rather stupid to disregard good players - perhaps at a discount - just to mess with another team.

I’ll offer a different reason:

Burke is stupid.

Yeah, but there are not many teams with both the cap space and the willingness to use it to take on contracts, even if they expire at the end of the season. If I were the Leafs, I’d really hold the Hawks by the onions and try to get a first round pick out of the deal.
