phaneuf to the Leafs
added 11:35am, from Eric Stephens of Ducks Blog,
The Ducks are set to trade Jean-Sebastien Giguere, the franchise’s all-time winningest goalie, to the Toronto Maple Leafs and it’s expected they will receive goalie Vesa Toskala and another veteran player in return, the Orange County Register has learned.
Giguere received a telephone call when he reached the Tampa Bay Lightning’s practice facility, where he learned of the potential move. The 32-year-0ld was in uniform but did not take the ice as players and coaches hugged him before he took the team bus back to the hotel.

If they had any confidence in Schenn they wouldn’t have done this.

If the Flames had any confidence in Phaneuf… they’d not have done this.

Phaneuf and Giguere to Toronto. That sounds a lot more promising than the offseason acquisitions, especially if Burke isn’t giving away the few remaining picks.

especially if Burke isn’t giving away the few remaining picks.
I’m not sure how reliable they are, but a lot of “pundits” seem to think that the word is Burke is willing to take big, cumbersome contracts if the other team includes picks, so…
I guess we’ll see.

Just an FYI, the press conference has not started yet, I am monitoring via radio.

More from Dreger Twitter
when asked if Stajan and Hagman are main pieces in Phaneuf trade, source says “its bigger than that.”

I think Giguere was the best opportunity to get picks in return for Burke, but he seems to unloaded Toskala and a veteran. Perhaps there is more involved in the deals and further details remain.
Now I’m just waiting for the Kovalchuk to Chicago news. But probably not today.

Burke says another deal should be announced within 30 minutes.
LOL…you knew it was only a matter of time before Burke went all tornadic on this club.
Well, this will make or break him. If this pans out, he’s there until he retires. If not, next year at this time he’ll be with another team.

man, calgary got fleeced. Phaneuf if worth a whole lot more than that. People will look back at this like they did with the luongo and thornton trades. Cant believe sutter gave up phaneuf for these chumps.

Weren’t there rumors of Phaneuf and Sutter not getting along?

Press conference is over by may indeed come back, another deal is expected to be announced shortly.

The question I have is when did Phaneuf become so tradeable since this package is a plethora of mid talent and nothing more. Last time I heard a deal I felt was this lopsided was the Gilmour deal, and Fletcher was there for that, wonder if he had a hand in this too.

I Can’t wait for the season to start!! I think the Leafs will improve a lot this year, definitely looking forward to seeing Phaneuf as the captain!
