Don Cherry thinks so.
Watch the fight, then Cherry’s comments follow.

Good on Lucic for knowing when he’s beat. Orr is a d-bag, and probably would have hurt him badly had the fight continued.

“If you’re gonna get in a fight, fight!”
He did. He lost. End of story.

Your kidding right?
Lucic - Not a goon
Orr- is a goon.
Technically Lucic shouldn’t of had a chance. Lucic hung went with him and hung with him until the end.
Looch hasn’t fought in how long? He was gassed. I didn’t see him turtle?

There’s honor in knowing you’re beat. By the reigning Cherry logic, I should continue to bash my skull into a brick wall indefinitely, even if it’s obviously kicking my ass.

Lucic FINALLY went with a heavyweight.
And then bailed like a Nancy boy.

If Lucic isn’t a goon, what is he?
Orr, Colton: 2G, 2A, 4PTS
Lucic, Milan: 5G, 5A, 10PTS
Not exactly a huge difference. When it is shown in slow-motion, you can clearly see the look of shock in Lucic’s eyes when he sees its is Colton Orr he’s fighting, and not Phil Kessel.

@Andrew:
You failed to mentioned that Orr has played in over twice as many games as Lucic has this season.
Orr, Colton: 63GP, 2G, 2A, 4PTS
Lucic, Milan: 30GP, 5G, 5A, 10PTS
Last Season:
Orr, Colton: 82GP, 1G, 4A, 5PTS
Lucic, Milan: 72GP, 17G, 25A, 42PTS
I’d say that makes him better than just a goon.

Lucic is an old-school hockey player (Cam Neely, Gordie Howie, Brendan Shanahan) that lost a fight to a goon. Big deal. Kudos to him for stepping up.

I thought that was over the top and I think it was silly for Cherry to call out one of the tougher Bruins.

He quit.
The best part of that whole video was listening to Brickley try to make excuses for Lucic. And you know Edwards went home crying last night.

Why would you start to bash your skull into the wall in the first place? That analogy doesn’t make sense.

Lucic is an old-school hockey player (Cam Neely…
No, Neely would rather have been taken off the ice on a stretcher before he would quit. He was “in it to win it” not to survive. And Lucic is nowhere near the offensive force Neely was.

people that think lucic bailed are idiots. for one lucic started the fight and was winning the beginning half. lucic got caught with a shot to those which broke it, but he kept on fighting, props for that. lucic did not hide if you noticed lucic initialy went at orr and thenw ent to square, never, never once was hiding. if cherry never made these comments nobody would be saying anything other then this was good fight, but everyone listens to cherry. lucic is 21 with 3 years experience. orr 27 with what 6-7 years experience. lucic 30 gp and orr 63 gp. lucic playing with a rapped up leg, so to say lucic is a pussy and was hiding, nah the kid is as tough as nails. people don’t act like you know neely when you don’t. you ever see his vancouver days, just think of this lucic had more points in his second season the neely had in his second. so to predict lucic’s career in his 3rd season is just reterded. every fighter has been tired in a fight and thats what happened to lucic. damn i seen mcgrattan tire out and gave up on a fight nobody ragged on him. how many top heavies has orr destroyed and lucic goes toe-to-toe with him and does well. people please show me whwere lucic got his ass beat i am dying to see it because it didn’t happen in this fight. it was a close fight and orr pulled it off at the end. if you say orr detroyed him and beat his ass, you know nothing about hockey and only come on to bash one player

if you morons look when they seperate lucic lunges at him first and if you notice lucic waves his hands like come on…watch again and pay attention and you will see it!!
Posted by hank from rhode island on 03/06/10 at 12:10 AM ET
lol lol lol lol , watch the super replay again and yeah umm, orr landed a couple and bsuted lucic nose but missed on a lot and lol, wow ummm lucic never quit!!! keep trying d-bags
Posted by hank from rhode island on 03/06/10 at 12:16 AM ET
Lucic is the most overrated player in Bruins history thanks to clowns like Jack Edwads…...Lucic can’t play but is a pretty good fighter in a league where nobody fights anymore. A waste of a roster spot…we already have a talentless goon…..Shawn Thornton

It was a good long fight. Pretty close, but I’d give the decision to Orr. Lucic had done well. I don’t think he backed down. I’m a leaf fan btw.

I love players like Lucic that can fight and score but I don’t like how he wossied out at the ending. If you look at 4:12, Lucic backs away and when Orr tries to grab him he skates back. Lucic is a big guy and I think he could have beat Orr but I don’t understand why he backed out of the fight; if your going to lose a fight then lose with dignity. Be more like your teammate Thorton and less like a pussy.

Dont get me wrong, I love the fact Lucic went after Orr. I like Lucic but I don’t like how he bailed at 4:12. Go to the video and watch it from 4:12 - 4:14. I guess he got tired.
Posted by CAM NEELY 4 PREZ from New England on 03/06/10 at 11:26 AM ET
I don’t see how anybody could say this fight was close. It’s pretty clear that Lucic lost. I don’t know if it’s because he got tired or if he got scared after Orr landed some heavy shots to him, but there was definitely a point he quit trying to hurt Orr.
I, like everybody else who saw the video, saw Lucic scutter away from Orr to make sure the linesman had room to get in between them before Don Cherry had the chance to speak his part. You don’t have to call it hiding, and I don’t necessarily call it a cowardly act, but yeah, Lucic quit.
Lucic’s gotta be embarrassed by this. I can’t wait for him to pick a fight with a guy much smaller and wail on him just to show what a “fighter” he is. Lucic earned himself this reputation.

All too typical of Don Cherry to totally ignore the fact that the linesmen were doing their jobs trying to break up the fight, and that the next guy to throw a punch might have gotten an extra penalty.
I daresay most linesmen wished that happened more often.
What, pray tell, does unwillingness to risk putting you’re team on the penalty kill have to do with courage or the lack of it?

He absolutely did. Just watched the video, and he quit and backed away. Orr was whupping him pretty badly by then. He was looking for an out and took it.
Bruins, there’s your hero and your fan-annointed franchise player. Hope you’re proud of him…
