Do You Believe In Huet?

from Mike Kiley at ChicagoNow,
The Blackhawks, even as they emerge as paper tigers among the NHL elite, will nonetheless be on trial next weekend at their fan convention.
As promising as their future appears for 2009-10, especially with the addition of high-scoring forward Marian Hossa, they will be asked to present indisputable evidence that shows Cristobal Huet is their No. 1 goaltender beyond a reasonable doubt.
Can that case be proven in a weekend of salesmanship? Was Huet worth 4 years at $5.625 million when the Hawks signed him as a free agent in July, 2008? Will you go home from the festivities next Sunday convinced that the net is in the hands of a master goaltender or a never-will-be?

who believes in any goalie anymore? who believed in Varlamov? no one. if it wasnt for Washington’s plethora of turnovers, it could have been a different run for them. immature execution is what cost them more than goaltending in the long run.
who believed in Cam Ward until late/into the playoffs? no one. did anyone really believe in Fleury until he upset the Wings other than Pierre McGuire? dudes let in as many softies as a bad porn.
this goalie crap is overhyped.
Huet, sure, hes overpaid but he can also return to some form and steal a few serues or a cup just as much as any goalie. the teams have to play well in front of them also. too late now. no one takes that contract.
last time i checked Osgood, Luongo, Brodeur and Nabakov all lost. and two of them have never even been near a cup final.

Kukla’s Korner is always a free service for readers, but it costs some money to maintain. If you’re ever in a position to donate a few dollars to help out, we’d be very appreciative.

Chicago’s answer is “most definately yes with no buts....(but only because we lost our best goaltender and we’re stuck with this guy because no one else is going to take him off of our hands at the price we’re paying and it would be a complete waste to have him as a backup again with some cheaper kid in net).
