Ducks Are Done

from Helene Elliott of the LA Times,
The Ducks are done and won’t make the playoffs this season. And for a lot of reasons.
Their defense is porous, their injury list too often led by key players like Selanne, Saku Koivu and Joffrey Lupul (out 38 games after back surgery and complications). Selanne, who has missed 26 games, and Getzlaf are day to day and questionable for Wednesday’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks at the Honda Center.
Don’t forget, too, the Ducks started the season at a disadvantage after they traded defenseman Chris Pronger, sacrificing a chance to contend for the Stanley Cup now for future chances.
Pronger, then nearly 35, was still a menacing figure. He wanted a seven-year contract extension and the Ducks refused but knew they couldn’t let him go with no return, as they had lost other players because of salary-cap restraints.

Helene Elliot has a problem. It should not be so easy to see differences in bias with the stories she writes but that is exactly the case with her work on the Kings and Ducks. She has always had something against the Kings; whether it is because of Tim Liewieke (well nobody likes that jackass), or Dean Lombardi, or the fact that she can’t seem to accept that the Kings have embraced a process and have turned the franchise around, but she is always apologetic for the Ducks (“injuries have doomed their season” or “its the Pronger trade”) - every team has injuries, etc. There is a reason why most hockey fans look for their hockey info on the web - especially the the Kings Insider with Rich Hammond. Fortunately for LA hockey fans, it is only a matter of time before the last 20 or so LA Times subscribers move on to other sources and we will no longer read the dreaded words of Helene Elliot. She is an embarrassment to LA hockey fans and hockey in general.
