The Anaheim Ducks extended the contracts of two players today: Jonas Hiller and Andrew Ebbett, both for two more years.
More on Hiller from Dan Wood at Ducks Blog:
The Ducks on Wednesday announced the signing of backup goaltender Jonas Hiller to a two-year contract that will pay him $1.3 million each season.

That’s about $200k less per season than the Wings cap hit for Ozzie. Eat that Burke!

I suppose it’s fair that every goaltending contract from here to eternity should be held up against Osgood’s bargain, but really? Taking crap from a team that not that long ago was paying two goaltenders $8M apiece?
Don’t let me get in the way of your Burke-bashing, though. Sounds like you need it.

The Ducks press release fails to mention that Ebbett played for the University of Michigan. While most fans probably don’t care about this factoid, it illustrates a growing problem for me. With an OHL franchise in Saginaw for five years now and more and more U of M players reaching the pro ranks, I am increasingly faced with seeing players I like and have cheered for (e.g., Ebbett, T.J. Hensick in Colorado, Andrew Cogliano in Edmonton to name a few) end up in organizations I don’t like (nothing against Edmonton really, except I would have preferred to see Cogliano in maize and blue for more than one season). I’m sure other fans—especially in longtime CHL cities—have faced this problem for years. The only solution I’ve been able to come up with is to keep cheering for the player, but rooting against his team. Personally, I find this maddening, but don’t know what else to do.
