Ducks Get Bigger With Artyukhin

from Curtis Zupke of Ducks Blog at the OC Register,
Artyukhin more than covers that patch physically. He ’s known as a hard-hitting forward who is also fast, particularly for a man his size.
Murray didn’t speculate where he would ideally fit in, but Artyukhin will presumably be in the mix, along with Ryan Carter, Petteri Nokelainen and Mike Brown, to join Todd Marchant on the checking line.
Whether Artyukhin is defensibly responsible to Coach Randy Carlyle’s satisfaction remains to be seen. There is also some question about his hands and hockey sense.
Artyukhin’s wrecking ball style got him in trouble last season when he was suspended two games for a kneeing incident involving Florida Panthers defenseman Ville Peltonen.
But Murray likened this stage of Artyukhin’s career to former Duck Travis Moen in that Moen didn’t play much at first but carved a role as a tough, effective checking winger who could occasionally find the net.

Probably given the fact that Peltonen plays such a stifling defensive game that he may as well be one ![]()
I’m not surprised that the Ducks wanted more snarl, and they’ll get it from Artyukhin. He’s a bit Avery-like in his inability or unwillingness to let up, however, so they’ll enjoy killing tons of power plays drawn by the big guy’s hits…

Peltonen played on the checking line and has some offense, hardly a stifling defensive game. Peltonen signed with KHL. I will always remember him for a drinking incident where he and Belfour got into an argument at a South Beach bar with some people and Peltonen bust up the emergency vehicle and was in hot water with the police.
As a Panthers fan I am glad to see Artyukhin out of the Southeast. He was a beast to play against, cheap shots and a huge body make him a player you hate on the other team but would love on your own. The games I saw him he looked good with the exception of slew footing Peltonen. Put him on the Ducks and both he and the Ducks are better.
