Given that the club remains intent on re-signing restricted free-agent right wing Corey Perry, who likely will command in the neighborhood of $5 million annually, and still hopes to lure unrestricted free-agent right wing Teemu Selanne back for another season, subtractions from the roster appear inevitable.

The obvious candidate to be moved in light of Niedermayer’s return is veteran defenseman Mathieu Schneider. The Ducks signed Schneider as a free agent last summer, ostensibly to replace Niedermayer, who was leaning toward retirement after having won the Conn Smythe Trophy as most valuable player during the club’s 2007 Stanley Cup championship run..
