Ducks Signing Montador Gives Them 7 NHL Dmen

via the OC Register,

The Ducks plan to announce Friday the signing of veteran defenseman Steve Montador to a one-year contract worth approximately $800,000.

Montador, 28, notched a career-high eight goals and 15 assists, along with 73 penalty minutes and a plus-1 mark, in 73 games for the Florida Panthers last season.

The addition of Montador gives the Ducks seven established NHL defensemen and increases the likelihood of one being traded. The most likely candidate to be on the move is veteran Mathieu Schneider, whose $5.625 million salary-cap hit is probably unworkable given that the Ducks will pay standouts Scott Niedermayer and Chris Pronger a combined $19 million in 2008-09.

So 6.75 + 6.25 = 19 now? No wonder Burke is having cap issues.

merge the Lightning, Ducks, and Canucks and you might have a .500 hockey club; Burke should stick to mudslinging with Kevin Lowe.

I thought “creative accounting” was supposed to work int he organization’s favor, not to its detriment.  Oops!

They must be including Schneider’s salary in that math.  It’s the only thing that makes sense.

Doogie is right. When you add in Schneider’s salary, it comes to $18.625 million. I’m sure the author probably meant to say something like “The most likely candidate to be on the move is veteran Mathieu Schneider, whose $5.625 million salary-cap hit is probably unworkable given that the Ducks will pay him and fellow defensive standouts Scott Niedermayer and Chris Pronger a combined figure of nearly $19 million in 2008-09.”

After all, we all know how careless those darn bloggers can be. They’re rarely accurate—and never accountable for the misinformation they spread willy nilly via the internet. It’s not like they have any administrative oversight, like a newspaper editor. Who, by the way, would have definitely done something to shorten such a ridiculously long sentence. Now, the MSM on the other hand…

Wait a second, The OC Register is MSM. I don’t understand. How can this be possible?
