from Pierre LeBrun of ESPN,
The NHL doesn’t hand out its awards until after the season but we here at ESPN.com like to dole out the hardware every quarter:
Hart Trophy (MVP)
Our candidates: Alex Ovechkin, Washington; Rick Nash, Columbus; Anze Kopitar, Los Angeles; Marian Gaborik, N.Y. Rangers; Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh; Chris Pronger, Philadelphia; Henrik Zetterberg, Detroit.
Norris Trophy (Top Defenseman)
Our candidates: Chris Pronger, Philadelphia; Duncan Keith, Chicago; Dan Boyle, San Jose; Tomas Kaberle, Toronto; Niklas Kronwall, Detroit; Mike Green, Washington; Jay Bouwmeester, Calgary; Drew Doughty, Los Angeles.

I find it a bit problematic that every Hart trophy candidate they list is a forward.

My mistake. 6 of 7 candidates are forwards. I expected to see Ryan Miller and Craig Anderson as MVP candidates.

How is Dan Bylsma not on the list for the Jack Adams award? Half the team is injured, including 5 of the starting 6 defenseman, and the Pens are still 4th in the East.

It’s a bit of an odd list, I agree. Hedman on the list but Jason Demers isn’t? And Bylsma should definitely be on that list.

How exactly is Crosby a candidate for the Hart Trophy? He’s been invisible so far this year. Oh I forgot. His name is Crosby so he’s in contention for every piece of hardware. Give me a break.
