Economy Ends Ducks Playoff Sellout Streak

from Curtis Zupke of Ducks Blog,
Earlier this year, the depressed economic climate was enough for the Ducks to freeze ticket prices for next season.
But fans are feeling the pinch more than ever this season.
That was the main factor for the Ducks’ playoff sellout streak ending at 20 games Tuesday, according to Tim Ryan, executive vice president and chief operating officer.
“You don’t have to look any further than the economy,” Ryan said.

Come on..the economy sucks everywhere…Anaheim is not a hockey town. They are even selling out in Carolina and New Jersey. Two teams in LA was the dumbest thing ever. It’s even dumber than two teams in Fla…It was all a money grab by the midget commish

This is an Anaheim source, so they probably have no idea where Jou Louis Arena is, and why Jou Louis is even significant. I don’t think it is a matter of bias.
However, given the general high income of Orange County, it is a strong indication that people really are not interested in hockey as much as say, the Lakers or the Anaheim Angels.

I’m more bothered by the fact that with all the hate poured on to the Wings last season for having trouble filling to capacity, that nobody has made mention that this year the Wings have put temp seating into walkways for Games 1 and 2… and they’re still filling the place again. But nobody’s bothered to mention that.
Instead we’ll injure ourselves patting the Blackhawks on the back for filling (or almost filling even) the United Center with playoff crowds that are nowhere near as imposing as they used to be.
Typical though. When a recession hits the midwest, the Eastern and Western writers and pundits don’t care or even think it’s real because they consider the midwest almost a different country. However, when it finally hits the coasts… boy you watch out, suddenly it’s a real problem then and the most-important thing in the universe finally. The coasts are just *now* getting hit with real economic problems we’ve had here in MI for what, 3 years now?
