Elias Feels Kaberle Would Be A Fit In New Jersey

from Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger,

Patrik Elias wasn’t happy to see the Devils lose defenseman Paul Martin to free agency, but he has a suggestion on how to fill that hole.

Tomas Kaberle.

Elias would like to see the Devils trade for the Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman.

“Personally, I wouldn’t be the only one to love to play with that guy,” Elias said. “It’s unbelievable how he controls the game. I think he’d be a wonderful addition to our team.

“Toronto’s been talking for three years that they want to trade him.”

Burks already stated he wants a top six forward for Kabby.  Is Lengenbrenner still butthurt from whatever the deal was the end of last season?  Who would the Devils move for him then?

If the Devils had someone they were willing to ship back the other way - that of course fit the TO requirements - then I am sure this is a deal that would make sense.  Problem is the Devils don’t have the player they would be willing to part with (or they already have - read Bergfors).

Very limited market for Kaberle I think.  Kings potentially, but again the kicker is the trade partner has to have the right mix of players going back the other way in order to make it work.

I guarantee if Elias was talking about Edler (or another VAN d-man) Gillis would already have the tampering charges filed.

Elias would feel Bret Lebda would have been a great fit in NJ at this point.

Elias just wants his team to have some d-men… ANY d-men…
