Emery Signing Is A Good One If…

from Sam Carchidi of Broad Street Bull,
Goalie Ray Emery was articulate and honest _ and didn’t throw a single punch at Flyers trainer Jim McCrossin when he was introduced at Wednesday’s news conference in Voorhees.
OK, that was a cheap shot. But when you come with Emery’s baggage, you expose yourself to all types of criticism.
That said, Emery could emerge as the bargain of the year.
The Flyers announced Wednesday they had agreed to a one-year deal with the 6-foot-2, 196-pound Emery. The deal is for $1.5 million, and if Emery returns to his 2006-07 form _ he led Ottawa to the Stanley Cup Finals _ the Flyers will be feeling very good about themselves.
Though I was in favor of re-signing Marty Biron, I like this move - if it enables the Flyers to sign Jay Bouwmeester or Mike Komisarek, a pair of defensemen who can become free agents on July 1.

Why are there only two choices?
If he’s not good, it’s not a downright awful signing, since it only costs them $1.5M. There’s more of a chance that this signing fall under the “good” or “not so good” category…
Let’s remember that this is a guy who, while he has some baggage, has already, at his relatively young age, had some success at every level he’s played at.
I watched the press conference last night and the most interesting thing is that they mentioned talking to John Paddock before making their decision…I wonder if maybe Paddock WASN’T a big, behind the scenes critic of Emery… Maybe Murray didn’t like him…
I don’t know, obviously there’s the risk, but he said all the right things, without sounding like he was reading from a script (and made a few jokes about not missing the North American media when he was in Russia), it will be interesting to see where it goes.

There’s only one choice, because Emery is never going to grow up. He proved that in the KHL this past season (remember him flipping out over a stupid hat?).
It’s going to be fireworks.

God, you’re an ass. He proved that he hasn’t grown up because he refused to put on a hat? When he was in a bad mood after being pulled? And the jerkoff insisted on trying to make him wear the hat?
What a ridiculous statement.
What about the fact that he played GREAT and that, as he pointed out, he had TWO penalty minutes in the KHL and they were for putting the puck over the glass?
What about the fact that he did FAR worse things than refusing to wear a hat BEFORE he was ever considered a pariah?
Someone needs to grow up, and it isn’t Ray.

One thing is for sure, Philly games will be more fun to watch this year.

I was hoping they’d re-sign Biron too, so they can re-create the Ottawa-Buffalo fight night during their practices…
