Enough Of The Hats

from Dan Steinberg of D.C. Sports Bog,
If you’re one of the best hockey players in the world, and you have a potentially undeserved reputation for excessive complaining, and you’re asked what you were discussing with a game official following your rival’s game-clinching playoff hat trick, you could potentially say, “Oh, it was nothing.” Or, if you were feeling frisky, you could venture further afield.
“People kept throwing hats,” Sidney Crosby said tonight. “I was just asking if he could make an announcement to ask them to stop. I mean, the first wave came and then I think they were all pretty much picked up, and then more started coming. So for us, we just wanted to make sure we kept kind of moving and kept the game going, wanted to try to get back in it. So wasn’t complaining about anything.”

Cindy whining about something? What else is new?

Crosby is clearly a better player than Ovechkin. Ovechkin is an opportunist. Not a good hockey player.

I was just kidding about Sid. I think he’s waaaay better than creepy Ovechkin! Plus he’s cute as a button!

Sounds like his reputation is fully deserved now. What a douchessory.

Wow. Get over it, Sidney. You had your own damn hat trick, I guarantee you wouldn’t have complained if it was you getting the 2-minute hat ovation.
I like how he clearly feels defensive about it and decides to qualify his statement at the end by saying “so wasn’t complaining about anything”. Um, you just described how you complained to the refs in full detail.

yes clearly better, that’s why Cindy acts like a petulant child asking the fans to stop celebrating.i think Zetterberg showed Cindy last year ppl aren’t going to just hand him a Cup like it’s his birthright.the Pens are a flawed team and AO is a freight train.Cindy can’t match AOs emotion,AO feeds that team.Cindy put down the Summers Eve and just play, christ in over 40 yrs of watching hockey i never heard a player tell opposing fans to stop cheering THEIR players feat or not throw hats so said player can get back to trying to play.is Cindy that feebleminded?Cindy never even gave Detroit props for beating them, the guy is less than gracious, hardly the face of the NHLfor the fans.go Caps go,send Crosby packing til he respects the game.

It just took a really long time for the hats from the back row of the upper bowl to get forwarded onto the ice. Try to hold it together, Sid.

Maybe next time the Caps fans should throw Midol or Tampons for Sidney…seems like he’s all out.
Wonder how well THAT would go over…

“zero personality” Crosby makes a joke and no one gets it.
Awesome.
They even showed Sid talking to the ref during this conversation. He was laughing, the ref was laughing.
I guess if he was toothless and looked like a monkey and said in broken english “Can’t you make an announcement or something to make them stop?” he’d be the best player in the league, otherwise he’s a whiner.

I think he could have gotten his point across with a crack about how he was glad the weather was warming up in Washington, or he’d be worried about an epidemic of cranial frostbite because there were so many hats on the ice, and it wouldn’t have come across as complaining.
I’m not surprised he was annoyed - players on all teams wear looks of aggravation at any delay, be it for picking up hats, repairing the ice, or replacing a broken pane of glass - but he should realize that if the official had made any announcement about throwing hats, it would have just encouraged the fans to throw other clothing items on the ice if they were out of hats purely to be contrary. It doesn’t do any good to do anything other than keep quiet in this case. Anything else is waving a red cape in front of an angry bull.
