Enough With The Celebrations

from Greg Couch of the Chicago Sun-Times,

It’s probably too early to be this pessimistic. But a few more weeks of this, and I’m going to be feeling awfully gullible.

The Hawks are still that fresh, emerging story. Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane can still be Chicago’s iconic combo in a few years.

So the Hawks are still a curiosity. But they have to be more than that now.

They have to be a hockey team.

Time to win. There’s a slogan.

Wow.  It’s been three games.  Tough crowd in Chicago.

Well, that red carpet deal before the home opener was a bit much, don’t you think?

Heh.  That’s true - it did have a bit of the flavor of a geeky boyfriend who over-planned his first date because he so wanted everything to be absolutely perfect … and then when he was trying to be suave and debonair at dinner he gestured in a way that was supposed to come off self-assured and elegant, but instead wound up dumping her salad in her lap.  But at least he means well.  smile

The team knows they have to win, and part of that is both Campbell and Huet adjusting to a new team and the team itself adjusting to a new captain in Toews, but the writer seems to be taking an extremely harsh and demanding tone very early in the season.  They lost their home opener, which isn’t unusual for any team trying to work out the opening night jitters.  The red carpet hoopla probably didn’t help, but now that is over with they should settle down.
