Erik Johnson Agrees To Contract With The Blues

Blues defenseman Erik Johnson has agreed to a two-year contract extension with the club, a source has told the Post-Dispatch.

Financial terms of the deal weren’t immediately available.

An announcement on Johnson’s extension could be made by the club later today.

Johnson, 22, had been a restricted free agent who was not allowed to receive offer sheets because he missed the entire 2008-09 season with a knee injury.

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today the club has re-signed defenseman Erik Johnson to a two-year contract.

  “We’re excited that we have reached a deal with Erik and now we can put our focus on the upcoming season,” said Armstrong.  “Erik is a key contributor to the group and we are confident he will build on the success he had in the 2009-10 season.”

Wow, that is an absolute bargain IMHO.

Weber and Doughty’s figures coming up should drastically change Johnson’s salary outlook for the 2012 season.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they signed similar short term deals with the CBA talks looming again.
