“If Hossa comes back at a number we can’t refuse, we’ll go through the process of moving bodies around to get him in. But based on our space, I’m not optimistic. He can receive offers from other teams that don’t have the star contracts we do, and he can be their star.”
Wings GM Ken Holland. More on the Wings from Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press….

I’m sorry, but Kenny’s lack of optimism translates into huge optimism for me. Let Marian go, Kenny. On our behalf, give him a firm handshake and our undying gratitude for his contributions during the regular season.
If he had performed at that level during the playoffs eveyone would be clamoring for his return. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. He was nearly a complete bust in the playoffs. So, thanks a lot Marian for your sacrifice last seaon. So sorry it didn’t work out for you or the Wings. Best of luck to you in the future. Now, please just go away and let the real Wings team of the future get on with preparing for next season.

To paraphrase - you aren’t worth the money you want but I know someone will give it to you. You can stay here but at what you’re really worth. Thanks for the memories…
It makes me throw up in my mouth a bit when I find myself agreeing with a Pens fan. But, damn it, I have to say that comment it right on point.

Sounds like a backhanded compliment to me. He can be their star but not ours.
The truth hurts. He is a superstar talent but a second tier heart. He’ll never be a Zetterburg, Crosby, Forsberg type leader. He’ll always be a right hand man. Fortunately for him, someone will be dumb enough to pay him like the superstar he isn’t.
I have a feeling Holland knows this. To paraphrase - you aren’t worth the money you want but I know someone will give it to you. You can stay here but at what you’re really worth. Thanks for the memories…
