“During the summer you look at teams and Phoenix is a team that I thought maybe would be a good fit for me because of my skill-set. I’m a good centerman on face-offs and I can handle myself defensively and I’m pretty creative on the power play. Those are things I’m going to try to show them at camp and in exhibition games and make the team.”

Best of luck to Wellwood. He’s really impressed me over the past few years as a Canuck - he’s worked really hard to become a valuable player on the team and, though furiously inconsistent, really raises his game in the playoffs. Deserves a shot at being a second-line centre, which he might get with the Coyotes. Just make sure he’s out there with at least one big guy to do the dirty work in the corners…
