from Adam Proteau of the Hockey News writing about today’s Rangers/Penguins game…
I think the Hockey Gods are trying to call you out, Stephen Walkom. There can be no possible rationalization for your officials continuously putting their hands in their pockets in third periods of games.
I’m normally one of your biggest defenders, but what’s going on is casting everything – the officials, the players, and the game itself – in a not-so-positive light.
more on the game…

So a player isn’t deciding a game when he commits a penalty, the ref decides the game when he calls one?

A penalty should be a penalty should be a penalty. And as much as I love physical hockey and “letting them play”, they should certainly not be ignoring blatant trips, hooks or interference plays as they seem to be doing at times.
There is no such thing as a referee “deciding” a game unless he’s being blatantly one-sided or makes a terrible call - or non-call - at a crucial time. Unfortunately mistakes do happen but there are certain times those mistakes are magnified due to their timing.

only blanted pentalies and stupidity on the players part should be call by the refs. not the dinky holding or phantom hooking pentalies shouldnt be called.
they should let the obstruction go and have the players determine the game, it makes the game alot more fun to watch.
obstruction = great playoff hockey

That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.

Oh, FF has said things that are a lot dumber than that, HD. In fact, he specializes in both mangling the English language and defying logic at the same time.

Maybe in his universe “great” and “craptastic” are synonyms.

this article makes zero sense. the author of this story doesnt realize that in the playoffs its the players who decide the game NOT referees. its sounds like this author wants speical teams to decide games than players themselves.
