NEW YORK (March 5, 2010) – NHL.com measured its highest count of unique visitors (UVs) on a single day ever during Wednesday’s NHL Trade deadline, again demonstrating that it is the leading fan destination in North America for NHL video, news, and analysis.
NHL.com experienced a nine-percent increase in unique visitors, and an 11-percent increase in page views (PVs), over last season’s NHL Trade Deadline Day (Mar. 4, 2009). Compared to an average day in March 2010, those figures represent a 71 percent increase in UVs and 75 percent increase in PVs.
From the general managers’ offices to the arena locker rooms to sports desks across North America, NHL Trade Deadline Day is historically one of the busiest days on the NHL calendar. As one of the NHL’s signature days, NHL.com provided special, exclusive programming all day long, including extensive news coverage; tickers and mobile content; official trade confirmations from the NHL Central Registry; video; and exclusive analysis from former GMs such as Craig Button and the legendary Scotty Bowman.
“Demand for content is at a peak during signature NHL days such as the Trade Deadline,” said Bob Condor, the NHL.com Editor In Chief. “Our mandate for these special moments is to meet the increasing demands of NHL fans for unique, exclusive video, expert analysis and story content they can’t get anywhere else. Wednesday again demonstrates we are delivering on that promise.”
Other highlights of the NHL’s performance on digital platforms during NHL Trade Deadline Day include:
· NHL.com saw 25 five percent more international traffic than in 2009, and nearly 50 percent more than in 2008.
· Video starts on NHL.com were up 47 percent over 2009 and up 388 percent more than 2008. Yesterday was the 8th-highest day in NHL.com history for video starts.
· NHL Mobile attracted a record amount of traffic, up 250% compared to a daily average. Visits were nearly 290% above average.
· The NHL TweetMixx Channel, which aggregated the Twitter feeds of more than 40 top hockey reporters in North America, attracted fans for 25 minutes per visit.
· NHL Trade Deadline was the #1 trending topic on Twitter in Canada for March 3, and trended steadily throughout North America with a Top 10 presence from 9:00 a.m. until after 5:00 p.m. It was also a Top-10 trending topic in the US.
· The NHL on Facebook garnered more than 1.5 million fan impressions.
