In 2007-08, the Western Conference featured only three of the top 10 goal-scoring teams in the League (Detroit, Dallas and Chicago). To close the gap, the West pried away some big names from the East via free agency and trade, beginning with the Olli Jokinen deal by Phoenix last month, the top goal scorer to change hands.

Okay ...
The West has fewer high-scoring teams because it’s a more defensively-minded conference. I doubt adding a forward here or there who might be more used to the less-defensively-minded Eastern conference is going to make that much difference - the difference in style is why there is so much speculation about Gaborik switching conferences.
