Adding Forsberg is that help….
That’s why you trade several draft picks—-or deal Valtteri Filppula and a first-round draft pick—- to get him.
It’s well worth the risk.

I personally think Filppula and a 1st is too much to give up, your thoughts?

Filppula’s name was dragged into this by a Philly area columnist. No way the Wings trade Filppula for what could turn out to be a rental. Even if Forsberg planned to stay in Detroit, Filppula is not going to be the guy going the other way. I also remember a Freep article where Filppula was considered the only 25 and under ‘untouchable’... Give the Wings braintrust some credit. They’ve done a decent job for us for a few years!

I would give McGrath or Ouhalen, a 1st rounder, and conditional picks.
I would consider everyone else untouchable. As far as draft picks, it always seems like we are trading down anyway. Babcock said he doesn’t want to break up his current roster. Filpulla in my book is untouchable.
However, the price of Forsberg my be pushed up, if say Nashville is going after him. We would have 4 games verse Nashville down the stretch, which would greatly effect our position. I would try my hardest if I were Kenny to make sure he didn’t go to San Jose, or Anahiem, because if he does, count the Wings out in the first round.
I hope he either comes to Detroit early on, or to the East at the deadline, that way the Wings won’t lose any worth while prospects for him (who will most likely return to Philly.

What Snafu said. I believe it was Gormley who decided that Filppula, who was…let me find the quote…ah yes, here it is (NHL.com kindly allowed him to reprint this column on their site as well):
The Red Wings are very much in the Cup hunt and could use a big-name ticket in hockey-crazed Detroit.
They are believed to be one of the teams that have contacted the Flyers, who would start the bidding with talented rookie center Valtteri Filppula, whom the Red Wings envision as the next Henrik Zetterberg or Jere Lehtinen.
Forsberg could nix any deal with the Red Wings simply because he refuses to play in Detroit after a decade playing for heated rival Colorado.
I really do believe that Filppula will end up as a 70-point scorer, so that’s “no way, no how” in my book…
Unless Forsberg declares that the orthotic in his skate’s finally anchored his foot in place, I wouldn’t even ask, and right now, his price is probably too high to begin with. The Wings could probably acquire both a scorer and banger for less compensation…

Whoever wrote that is an absolute fool. Filppula is going to be better that hudler or kronwall. I say send Williams over and a 1st rounder…but wait, Williams isnt any good, so Detroit has to somehow fool Philly into thinking that Williams can put up 30 goals/year.

No way. In fact, unless Forsberg can find the magic skates that can help him play as he has before, I wouldn’t trade for him at all. The quickest way for any team to get into trouble is to trade away young talent for aging, possibly injured stars.

Even if Forsberg was 100%, no way.
He’s headed for free agency, is always toying with going home, and will undoubtedly get hurt in the future if he did resign with the team.

As a Wings fan I feel 100% sure Fillpula is not going anywhere. Holland is not crazy, and Valteri is definitely Babcocks type of player.

I think those who keep dreaming up these trade scenarios for Forsberg are smitten by his name and ignoring the fact that he hasn’t been at 100% this season and likely isn’t gonna be.
