Flyers Extend GM Paul Holmgren for 3 Years

From the Delco Times:

The Flyers have signed General Manager Paul Holmgren to a three-year contract extension that will keep him at the helm through the 2011-12 season, the Daily Times has learned.

Holmgren was credited in large part with the wheeling and dealing last off-season that took a team that finished last in the NHL and put them back in the playoffs.

Update 3:04pm ET: Also in the same article above, Arron Asham was signed to a multi-year deal today.

with Flyers already over cap for next season, any idea how this supposed genius Paul Holmgren plans to sign restricted free agent Braydon Coburn?

Holmgren resiged Coburn back in December to a 2-year deal with a cap hit of $1.3 million per year. So Coburn won’t be on the market again until the summer of 2010. That should leave Homer plenty of time to clear cap space through trades, etc.
