Flyers Have Interest In Erik Cole?

via Sam Carchidi of Broad Street Bull,
The Flyers placed defenseman Matt Walker on waivers today, and the $1.7 million that will come off the books will give them about $3.6 million in acquisition space.
In other words, enough to acquire Carolina’s Erik Cole, a 32-year-old winger who has 13 goals and 13 assists this season.
Cole, who played for Peter Laviolette when the Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup, is a player who would fit well with the Flyers. He can become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, but his $2.9 million salary would also fit.
Is a deal in the works?
Stay tuned.

I don’t know anything about Cole’s situation right now in Carolina but right now they’re 1 point behind Atlanta with two games in hand, so I can’t see them selling off assets right now…

Fighting for a playoff spot and trading Cole doesnt make much sense.

I don’t understand why Philly would want Cole in the first place. It’s not like he’s an upgrade on Van Riemsdyk or Leino. Maybe they want him to play the right side in place of Zherdev?

Yeah, I mean why would a team that has arguably the best forward depth in the NHL want to trade for a depth forward?

Doubt it. When Cole left Carolina briefly a few years back, they slumped, and so did he. When he cam back, it was an awesome mutual fix. There’s something about Cole on the ‘Canes that magically fits. I don’t see them trading him now.
