from Mark Hermann of Newsday,
MINUS: What’s with those Indiana Jones hats for Detroit coach Mike Babcock and his staff?
PLUS: The Cup champion Red Wings are still the class of the league. Outstanding team.
MINUS: Sad to say, but it’s hard to imagine if the casual sports fan--the person who flipped over from the Nebraska-Clemson game on CBS--could name even one player on the Red Wings.
PLUS: Excellent point by Bob Costas in the closing segment, pointing out that Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls kept getting thwarted by the Detroit Pistons on their way up, the way it looks like the Blackhawks will have to do.

It’s called a homage to tradition, Herrman. If you had any kind of respect for your writing “talent” (loosely), you’d go back and check out some of the old photos from the very early days of the NHL and you’d see Jack Adams wearing fedoras. Hell, even Scotty Bowman wore it for a little while.
Idiot…

Tradition!
I loved the coaches’ hats.
It reminded me of Toe Blake or Jack Adams.
I would have added a big stoagie.
That was a nice touch, and I bet those hats will auction for a nice chunk of change for charity.

Those fedoras were gorgeous.

Yeah, I loved the hats.

Toe Blake
Dick Irvin
Young Scotty Bowman with Dick Irvin
Can’t believe I have to do Herrman’s homework. What a lazy writer…

Yeah, really, why WOULD a casual fan know any players?
I’m a casual football fan and I only really know the star players (or the ones who get into trouble with Tha Law).
See, um...that’s what makes them CASUAL FANS, stupid!

I can’t name one Nebraska Cornholer or Clemson Tiger.....and that’s a good thing. The “casual” sports fan is going to watch the Winter Classic at least for the novelty of it. Anybody that knows two players on Nebraska or Clemson is not going to be watching the hockey game.

3 Points:
Kane was playing hurt this game, and probably would not have played if it was a normal game. He was a non - factor.
Apparently almost all of the goals were scored on the right field side of the rink.
Was this a fact, and was it caused by the wind or the sun? I didn’t think sun was a factor, so maybe it was the wind.
That hit on Cleary putting him ass over appetite into the Hawks bench was a thing of beauty.

If it’s any consolation I doubt any casual fan could name a player on Nebraska or Clemson.
