Frozen Four Configuration Changed

from College Hockey News,
With ticket sales not going as briskly as was hoped or expected, the NCAA and Frozen Four organizers have changed the seating configuration for Ford Field. The change lowers the capacity from an effective 60,000-plus to approximately 36,000.
The Frozen Four will be played this year, for the first time, in a football stadium venue. After selling out 10 straight years, that track record was already going to be tested.
Under the new configuration, instead of the rink being situation at midfield, it will be moved to the west end zone, and the opposite end zone seats will be closed off. A riser system will be set up on the east side of the ice.

Thought the game was being played in a hockey town? Phoenix could draw 36000 for a frozen four.

Well considering the poor promotion I’m not surprised. I wasn’t even aware it was at Ford Field this year, I thought it was next… and I follow college hockey.

Um...I’m guessing that a state wide jobless rate at >20% and a Detroit jobless rate at > 30% might have a little to do with this. However, the tickets are being sold NATIONWIDE, so perhaps the hardcore hockey faithful in Phoenix,or Tacoma, can sack up and buy a few seats, no?
Listen cheif, you gotta come a whole lot stronger with your swipes at Detroit than that.
Oh, and for your information, this state supports 7 division 1 hockey programs thank you very much ( Michigan,Michigan State, Western Michigan, Ferris State, Northern Michigan, Lake Superior State, and Michigan Tech).
Remind me again, how many division 1 programs does Arizona support???...or Washington state for that matter???

I guess that means they will only have to sell 5000 tickets per school rather than 9000 under the old configuration.

Lower capacity but sounds like a good decision. At least fans will be reasonably close to the ice, which is more than I can say for any of the NHL Winter Classics. Shouldn’t need binoculars to watch a hockey game.
