Frustration Sets In

NBC, get your act together when it comes to broadcasting Olympic hockey.

Hockey fans in the USA deserve much better than what you are providing.

The latest example, Sweden/Germany game tonight.  Had to switch to MSNBC (due to extended curling action_ to catch the game, then 8pm ET rolls around, Doc Emrick tells us switch to CNBC to continue watching the game, yet curling is on.

Four stations available to broadcast on and yet you can’t get the game on TV?

Again, hockey fans deserve better treatment than this!

Also, the NBC online feed has no play by play…which isn’t bad, but just odd.

NBC owns MSNBC, USA, Universal HD, and Bravo. None of those channels are showing Olympics right now. Instead, they are cramming all the live stuff onto CNBC and the taped stuff on NBC.

Use all the channels!

I second this. I understand carrying hockey on CNBC/MSNBC because the ratings aren’t as good, but I’m not buying that curling deserves air time over hockey- ESPECIALLY when that hockey game involves the reigning gold medalists.

I am so beyond frustrated with NBC’s hockey coverage. I can’t believe that they’re failing this badly. They have the channels. They could be broadcasting the game right now but NONE of their channels have the game on. NBC = EPIC FAIL.

The real crime here isn’t that they are continuing to show the curling match, its that they would rather show Keith Fricking Olbermann than hockey. If you’re going to spend all that f’ing money to get the Olympics, why not show them and tell your regular programming to take a week’s vacation?

I’m with Kstewy16.  Love Olbermann or hate him, he’ll still be there in a couple weeks and the Olympics won’t.

Trying to get the live feed is frustrating as well. I’d have to register an account to see a hockey game (in progress).

2nd period - it just came on.

Yup.
That said, ANYTHING involving hockey and NBC is poor at best.
Game on finally, 0-0… we didn’t “miss” anything by NBC’s logic.

Corporate America (NBC) doesn’t care about hockey fans.  Corporate America doesn’t care about people period.  Citibank just today trimmed my credit card limit from $24,000 to $500 dollars because I was late with my last payment.  Oh, by the way, my last payment paid off my account in full for over $6700.  In fact, I have a credit balance of $160.  I explained to them the reason my account was a week late was because I just refinanced and had to wait for my bank to send the check out.  Needless to say I gave an earfull to the woman from India who took my call (can’t even use American workers) and closed my account.  My advice?  Do not deal with Citibank as they will not respect you.  Also, I have been a cardholder with Citibank for 20 years and have been late on payments 3 times.

Sorry for the rant Paul but I am sick and tired of being jerked around by Corporate America.  NBC included.

I’m still mad NBC made the outside screen at Mellon Arena go dark during the playoffs. The fiasco that is NBC and the Olympics hockey is not improving the network’s (and I use the term lightly) reputation.

Pensblog has it wrong.

It is more that NBC is taking a dump on all of us.

And oh look! The second period has begun and it is on CNBC.

The exact same thing I thought.

It seems that even on the World level, hockey gets the royal shafting.

Based on the ratings, they could show taped women’s curling over Olbermann.  So, show live hockey, NBC!

It’s been terrible. The whole olympic presentation by NBC has been just terrible. They’ll point at decent ratings, oblivious to the fact that they could be even so much greater… Really, my energy for the Winter Olympics is so much greater than NBC has been able to satisfy.

That game doesn’t start until midnight tonight (well, early Thursday morning, I guess.)  I understand some people’s onscreen guides said it was earlier today.  Supposedly, it will be televised from 12:30-2:30 a.m. tomorrow on CNBC, after the Swiss-Slovak women’s game tonight at 10, also on CNBC.

I’ve been using Yahoo! Sports schedule and television schedule to figure these things out.  This is the game schedule; then you can compare it to the television schedule to figure out what’s going on when.

I’m not going to play devil’s advocate here, this is genuine:

I like curling.

I never get to see it on US television.  It’s chess on ice, and I grew up watching it on CBC back when we could get hit here in southern Michigan still.  I LOVE that I’ve been getting to watch curling lately during the days.  Even though both the US Men and women have stunk it up.

I don’t think that they should be bumping hockey for curling.  Quite frankly, they could bump *everything else* for curling though as far as I’m concerned.

Sooooo…. anybody got any guesses as to what I should actually set my DVR to record tomorrow to catch the USA/Norway game? Do we have any confidence that it will actually be on USA at 3pm (ET and PT) like the schedule says?

From my experiences these past couple of days, the 3pm game has been on at 3pm both times.

If it’s the first thing broadcast on that channel, like it has been the past couple of days, it should start on time again tomorrow.

Of course, that’s my common sense talking…and we all know NBC and common sense don’t usually go in the same sentence together (unless that sentence is “NBC has no common sense.”).

So…in conclusion…who f*cking knows?

NBC coverage is, as paul points out, god awful.

Case in point was Canada’s first game.  Game didn’t begin airing (on MSNBC) until 4 mins into the first period. Then, at the 12 min mark of the first, Emerick says the game will now be on CNBC and to switch over.  I switch over immediately only to watch COMMERCIALS and NBC logo pounding for over 5 mins.

The game comes back on with 2mins left in the first.  So, in total, they pretty much didn’t even bother televising the first period of the game.

Last night’s Germany vs Sweden game (didn’t think it would be good but was; FROM WHAT I WAS ABLE TO WATCH) didn’t started broadcasting until the 2nd period.

I hope little napoleon (bettman) is taking note of how one of the NHL’s corporate partners are treating the game…...

Worst coverage ever. During one of the events the commentator referred to “the guy from France”. Well the guy from France won the gold, but which one?(Lamy Chappuis)

You would think these people would be prepared and at least know the names of the athletes . This is their freaking job.

Complain daily on the NBC Olympic site,  like I do. They may not do anything about it, but they could at least be annoyed at the volume of complaints. My attempts to DVR USA vs Switzerland on USA left me with nothing but curling so who knows what’s next.
