Gaborik Head Over Heels

The video describes the action.  Hasek received a 2 minute tripping call.

Hasek commented he asked the ref about the penalty call and was told, Come on Dom, the score is 5-0, lets just finish up.  Hasek was concerned about his shutout which he did get.

added 10:42am, A2Y has another video of the play…

On some of those frames you can clearly see that Hasek beat him to the puck or was at least equal.  Since when is a goalie obligated to let a player have a breakaway.

With the score 5-0 congrats to Hasek for staying focused and brilliantly anticipating the play.  Genius.

Now I’m especially glad he got his shutout.  I’d have been po’d if he had lost the shutout on a power play for that chintzy tripping call.

No, on another view Gaborik had control of the puck coming in, but can’t a defenseman, in this case the goalie, play the puck?  apparently not.

I’ve been watching hockey for 50 years and never, ever have I seen a penalty call made on a play like that.  Until now.  Absolutely ridiculous.

Agreed. The only reason there is an issue here is because it became a dangerous play when Gaborik went flying. Hasek did not miss the puck, right after the hit you can see the puck going the other direction. Good play by Hasek regardless of the score.

the first time i saw hasek play was the ‘92 finals against pittsburgh, game four of a sweep.  he did the same thing to mario on a breakaway.

Hasek led with his legs.  If he beat Gaborik to the puck, he could have just poked it away - a novel concept.  And of course the sad thing is that Hasek won’t be suspended for a negligent play.
