Get Ready NBC, More Of This To Come

from the Palm Beach Post,

If hockey fans needed a reminder of how insignificant their sport is on the American landscape, they got it courtesy of NBC Saturday.
One minute, viewers were watching the end of regulation play with the scored tied at 2. Coming back from the commercial break, NBC switched to its coverage of the Preakness Stakes. It was almost as if the hockey game had never happened.

I am currently thanking the puck gods that I have CBC.

As an aside, why do CBC and FSN show the singing of the national anthem(s), at least almost every game, but versus (and ESPN when they carried hockey instead of Scrabble) have such insightful commentary that the viewing populace must be enlightened by more blather instead of seeing the anthems?  Just a pet peeve of mine.

I actually don’t care to hear the anthems, but I’d rather listen to them than the useless comments made by the Versus guys.

Especially in the playoffs, there are some wonderful anthem performances, especially in Canada. I don’t much like the Senators, but there is nothing like Lyndon Slewidge’s rendition of “O Canada”.

What’s worst is Tivo’ing the game and then not seeing the end.  I even planned ahead and recorded past 5 on NBC and recorded CNBC starting at 5.  If I recall, NBC had used CNBC previously (maybe I am making this up).  I should have forgone recording NBC past 5 and recorded Versus.

Every channel that shows hockey should show both anthems as well IMO.
